Should We Celebrate the “Re-Opening?”

Why are we celebrating the “re-opening” of business or conditional restoration of our Rights?  Written script below the video and the break…

Text below the break:Should we celebrate re-opening?  A friend expressed “kudos” to the governors re-opening their states.

Hmmm… I don’t know if kudos is really the right reaction. It’s like saying “thanks” to your kidnappers after they let you go first (but keep your friends and family captive).  Most Americans seem to be suffering a collective case of Stockholm Sydrome.

These fucking tyrants committed a crime by shutting us down in the first place. It should have never happened.  Celebrating its “phasing out” is hardly appropriate, in my opinion.  It’s a violation of the 1st and 14th Amendments.

My biggest disappointment is that so many of my fellow Americans rolled over and allowed it to happen.  They didn’t stand up for their Rights.   Not even a little bit.  Shit, most of them don’t seem to even be AWARE of their Rights.

So, yeah… HOORAY, for suspending the violation of our Constitutional Rights.  Hooray for beating us to within an inch of our economic lives and then taking a breather.

Until they do it again.  And, they WILL.

I understand the reflexive celebration by some.  It’s natural to celebrate a “relief” of sorts.  But, the crime has been committed.  The damage is done.  That they’ve slowed the attack or stopped attacking us… FOR NOW… is small consolation. They’ll be back again.  Soon.  For the next “crisis,” they’ll be back.

I will also submit that the American public has not yet realized the profound and extensive damage the economic shutdown has created.  They haven’t yet stepped outside the storm shelter to see that their city has been flattened by the tornado.  The damage this will have done to the economy is not yet realized.  It will be far-reaching and DEVASTATING.  Many businesses and jobs won’t be re-opening, because they’re done.  Finished.

So, it’s hard for me to “celebrate” the “re-opening” of even my own business.  The government and media have LIED to our patients and scared the shit out of them.  Patients are reluctant to return.  Very reluctant.  Never mind that Dentistry has a PERFECT record of infection control, whereas our medical brethren cause 1.7 million hospital-acquired infections, killing 90,000 PER YEAR in the U.S.

It’s hard for me to celebrate, knowing that my countrymen have largely embraced the precedents violating our Constitutional Rights.  Once you forsake your Rights for the ILLUSION of “safety,” you will have neither from this point forward.

You can lose your Rights by doing nothing, accepting the infringements and violations with nothing more than apathy.  But, you will have to FIGHT to get your forsaken Rights BACK.  And, by “fight,” I mean in a PHYSICALLY tangible manner.  It might start (and hopefully end) with civil disobedience… Refusing to obey unconstitutional orders.  Or, it might take more than that.  We’ll see, eh?

Daniel Webster said, “Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.”

  1. Spot on Dr Mike! The tyrants in Illinois have cost my employees/friends and myself our livelihoods and our constitution. I will be one not able to return following months of shut downs in our State. Keep using your voice for the greater good!

  2. Good rant. As a side note, I prefer you writing down your thoughts for me to read, since I can read much faster than you can talk, and also I can read without everyone else in the room knowing what I’m reading. Can’t do that with your new video format.

  3. Not to mention the Hospital mistakes that kill 100,000 per year. Oh, but they are our “Heros”.

  4. Ken says:

Worse is those who celebrated the shut down as the right thing to have done and believing it actually saved lives.

  5. RJ Schneider says:

Not celebrating but glad to know we’re open so we don’t have to layoff any more staff.
